“Kai Khosrau turned unto his nobles and spake, saying: ‘Return now upon the road that ye are come, for I am about to enter in upon a path where neither herb nor water can be found. Wherefore I entreat of you that ye spare yourselves this weariness’…Lohurasp, when he learned that Kai Khosrau was vanished, mounted the throne of the Kaianides [Kayanians]. And he called before him his people that they should do allegiance unto him. And they did so, and the place of Kai Khosrau knew him no more…”

~ excerpt from the Iranian national masterpiece, the early 11th c. “The Shahnameh” by Ferdowsi which brings us to an interesting reference in an 1888 publication by E. Bretschneider entitled “Medieval Researches from Eastern Asiatic Sources” in which Kai Khosrau, one of the kings of pre-historical, Avestan era Iranian dynasty, the Kayanians, is equated with the great historical founder of the first world empire, Achaemenid Persian dynasty’s Cyrus the Great
of 6th c. BCE…

…the Kayanian kings were philosopher-kings…the dynasty’s name comes from Avestan Iranian notion of “divine royal glory” (kaveam khareno)…however, having divine glory is not limited just to royalty…in Iranian views everyone has “khavarneh” or “farr” as linked here  because Aryan (Iranian) beliefs revolve around one’s deeds, words and actions regardless of status…thus, what is noble in this way of life is how one conducts himself/herself and what contributions one makes during his/her lifetime…this applies to both men and women…native Iranian beliefs are not materialistic; hence, its spiritual or religious views are also non-materialistic…that’s why inspirations taken from Aryan beliefs by others such as Abrahamic Semitic were often misconstrued or changed to materialism…i.e., the concept of heaven taken from Iranians has come to Abrahamic views such as the Islamic branch as being an actual place with lots of food, sex, and things of comfort (the very things denied its followers while living)…

…Kai Khosrau, who is apparently equated with Cyrus, eventually named his successor before retiring…inhabitants of Shazand, Iran, believe he retired there and is still living in the mountains (there is that concept of a hidden sage or hidden savior)…hence, the town’s name is derived from “Shah + zende” or the “the living king”…one may not separate Iran from its kings after all…
